Finding Your Truth with Brenda & Jalea of A Freesoul Experience – Episode 009

Episode 009 - Finding Your Truth with Brenda & Jalea of A Freesoul Experience

In this episode, Chris and Debbie are joined by Brenda and Jalea Baker of A Freesoul Experience. They speak in-depth about life’s journey from wholeness to fear and back to wholeness again through one’s search for their own, uniquely individual “truth”. Brenda and Jalea share:

  • Their Simple Story
  • The Freesoul mission–to be happy and free anytime, anywhere, with anyone, and under any circumstance
  • The meaning of essence, parking spaces, prying tools, Ahhs, and Icks
  • Where fear comes from
  • Fear versus wholeness
  • Simple stillness
  • Words/actions/behaviors that signal fear–need, must, should, interrupting, using a high-pitched voice, explaining, convincing
  • Words/actions/behaviors that signal truth–peaceful, slow, low tone of voice, confidence, silence
  • The freedom that comes from choosing to see wholeness in others

Some great quotes from Brenda and Jalea in this episode include:

  • “Truth and freedom are synonymous. Truth and essence are synonymous.”
  • “There’s no forcing with the truth.”
  • “Don’t should all over yourself.”
  • “When I’m in my truth, I won’t be moved.”

As well as these quotes that came up in conversation that have influenced us:

  • “Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.” Victor E. Frankl, Man’s Search for Meaning
  • “Suffering is necessary until you realize it is unnecessary.” – Eckhart Tolle, Stillness Speaks
  • “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
― Marianne Williamson, A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of “A Course in Miracles”
They leave you with:
“Our conversation with Jalea and Brenda reminded us of how big a role fear can play in our lives. There’s so much to be scared of and worry about if we really want to be. When it comes to creating the life we really want, it seems like many of us worry most about what other people might think of our choices. Isn’t it funny then, to understand that those people that we’re worried about judging us are most likely just worrying about the same in their own lives? Most of the time, they’re not thinking of us at all.

Impostor syndrome nags us with the question, ‘Who do you think you are?’ Brenda, who makes a daily practice and calling around developing healthy responses to fear, reminds us in this conversation that even she struggles with this.

I can’t help but remember this quote from Marianne Williamson in response. She says, ‘Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.’

So when we begin to tune into the icks and ahhs, as Freesoul teaches, of our daily lives, we begin to know ourselves better. Identifying the icks helps us sit with them, name them, and begin to understand them well enough to know when they no longer serve us. There’s a lesson in the icks of life, one that can guide us to creating the ahhs that are meant for us.

May you make a little space for yourself today; space to feel both the icks and the ahhs; space to understand what they have to teach you. May you use that understanding to make manifest the glory of God that is within you. May you use the call of the ahh to pull you out of playing small and doubting your intuition and toward the light that shines from within. May you give yourself permission to be liberated from your own fear today, and in doing so, liberate others from theirs as well.
