Deb and Chris ask Doug Cunnington all the questions about turning side-hustles into enough passive income to retire early.
ListenEpisode 010 - Goal Setting That Works
In this episode, Chris and Debbie talk about the impact goal setting has made in their lives. They discuss, in-depth, the process of breaking down future visions into manageable, daily steps that support designing each day intentionally to make progress toward living the life of your dreams.
They provide specific examples of how they’ve used this process in:
- building and completing items on a bucket list
- creating enough passive income through real estate to reach financial independence in just a few years
- writing a book
You’ll also hear how they get clear with themselves and each other about their goals through yearly “planning dates”, exercises, and regular check-ins, enabling them to understand and support each other in their progress.
Chris leaves you with this thought:
“Before we go, I want to leave you with this reminder from Gary Keller: ‘We set goals for only one reason so that we know how to be appropriate in the moments of life that matter.’
What that means to me is to know that when life gets busy with people, opportunities, choices, and distractions, I need to answer these questions:
- What is most appropriate for me in this very moment?
- Which decision will keep me holding hands with the dream I’m currently chasing?
- Which choice will reflect the commitment I’ve made to my soul?
From there I don’t have to be perfect. If I’ve done myself a favor, I will have already given myself permission to stay engaged; to stay present; to step in the arena, just like Teddy; to get dusty, sweaty, and bloody; to know great enthusiasms and devotions; to spend myself in a worthy cause.
I may fail, but if I do, at least I was able to dare greatly so that my place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.”
